On May 20, the Ascend AAPI Spring Fashion Show will transform the Houston Public Library’s historic Julia Ideson Building into a beautiful and festive runway from 2-5 p.m. The fashion program is part of “Our Vibrant AAPI Community: Selections from the Houston Asian American Archive,” which tells personal stories that reflect the deep and varied contributions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to the fabric of Houston. The exhibition is on display through June 3 at the Julia Ideson Building Gallery, 550 McKinney St.
Two Rice University core services earned high praise from The Princeton Review in its recent Best Colleges rankings. In the quality-of-life category, Rice ranked No. 12 for best college dorms and No. 18 for best campus food, marking yet another year in which the two services have ranked within the top 20 in their respective categories.

Rice University alumnus and professor emeritus Arthur Allen Few Jr. died Dec. 3, 2022, at his home in Gold Hill, Colorado, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease and related medical issues. He was 83.

Rice University’s top brass is represented in Houston Woman Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2022 list. Among the honorees are Provost Amy Dittmar and Board of Trustees member Claudia Gee Vassar, as well as seven others with Rice connections.
The late Shelley Pennington ’78 was an active member and recent president of the Pennington First Aid Squad, so when it closed its doors earlier this year, the organization looked for other places to responsibly donate its resources. The connection resulted in a $180,000 donation to Rice University Emergency Medical Services.
