The past several months have been a whirlwind of success for Rice’s George R. Brown Forensics Society, the university’s award-winning student speech and debate team with a track record of racking up championships and awards by the dozens. After tremendous success amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, including two national championships in as many years, the team’s penchant for top-tier performances has continued this fall alongside a much welcomed return to in-person competition.
Hosted by the Office of International Students and Scholars — International Connections (OISS), the International Holiday Hospitality Help Program aims to provide amenities such as low-cost/no-cost housing accommodations, meals and gift cards/cash to international undergraduate students who cannot return to their home this holiday season.
Art and music aficionados alike flocked to the Moody Center for the Arts Nov. 19 for an afternoon of live performances and original compositions by Shepherd School of Music students, each piece created in response to the Moody’s current fall exhibition.
Thomas Avalos, a Lovett College senior majoring in sport management at Rice University, is all smiles while working during the World Series at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Avalos is a ticket experience ambassador for the team. The Astros won the World Series in six games over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Excited children and their families from surrounding communities were welcomed to Rice campus Oct. 29 for Project Pumpkin, the university’s annual event full of Halloween crafts and fun for all ages.

As part of the multiday inauguration celebration in his honor, Rice President Reginald DesRoches invited both undergraduate and graduate students to mark the occasion at a pair of receptions Oct. 21.
Rice University Theatre will present Kate Hamill’s “Pride and Prejudice” for two weekends only at Hamman Hall: Oct. 21 and 22 at 8 p.m., with a matinee Oct. 23 at 3 p.m., and Oct. 27 and 29 at 8 p.m.
Seasoned Rice Owls and new students alike were invited to the annual Student Activities Fair Sept. 1. Held in the student center and the adjacent Central Quad, Rice’s over 200 student clubs and campus departments set up shop to spread the word about their organizations and how interested students can get involved.
