New Rice Owls get taste of Houston and service-learning through Civic Immersion program

A few weeks prior to Rice’s weeklong new student orientation, dozens of incoming Owls took time out of their summers to immerse themselves in the city of Houston and the social justice issues local advocates are striving to address through the Civic Immersion program, one of the flagships of the university’s Center for Civic Leadership (CCL).

This fall, nearly six months from the war’s beginning, a pair of Rice history scholars along with several guest experts will guide students through the causes and consequences of the conflict.
Rice community hits the streets for LGBTQ Pride celebrations

Dozens of members of the Rice community hit the streets of downtown Houston June 25 to walk in the city’s 44th annual LGBTQ Pride parade. This year’s parade and festival marked the first in-person iteration of the yearly event held in two years due to COVID-19.
