Members of the Rice community gathered at Valhalla for an evening of celebration Dec. 5 for Chabad at Rice’s pre-Hanukkah bash.

Held in lieu of the organization’s annual menorah lighting ceremony due to the first night of Hanukkah falling during this year’s winter break, the event led by Chabad co-director Rabbi Shmuli Slonim featured musical entertainment from the Marching Owl Band, free donuts and latkes and giveaways of menorah kits and dreidels ahead of the holiday season. Attendees also lent a hand in wrapping gifts for children who are patients in the Texas Medical Center as an extension of Chabad’s ongoing Hanukkah toy drive.
