Last month, Il Pirata Records released “DO NOT LAMENT,” the recording debut of Shepherd School alum Rebecca Scout Nelson, a vocalist and baroque violinist. Richie Hawley, a professor of clarinet at the Shepherd School, is president of the record label.
Rice University’s Shepherd School Contemporary Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra will wrap up their 2022-2023 performing seasons with concerts on April 19 and 21, respectively. Both concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall.

Eight-time Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride visited Rice’s Shepherd School of Music for a master class with double bass students March 3.
On Feb. 24 and 25, Rice University composition professor Anthony Brandt collaborated with University of Houston professor Jose Luis Contreras-Vidal and Performing Arts Houston to premiere his newly commissioned chamber piece “Diabelli 200” at the Wortham Center.

Rice alum Cristian Măcelaru to lead Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra in March 4 symphony concert
A visit from internationally renowned guest conductor and Rice University Shepherd School alum Cristian Măcelaru coupled with a blend of traditional and new classical works are among the highlights planned for the school’s chamber and symphony orchestra performances March 3 and 4, respectively.
The celebrated French Ensemble intercontemporain will make its Texas debut March 23 at an event presented by DACAMERA, in partnership with Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music . The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Alice Pratt Brown Hall’s Stude Concert Hall on the Rice campus.
