Rice University EMS receives legacy donation

The late Shelley Pennington ’78 was an active member and recent president of the Pennington First Aid Squad, so when it closed its doors earlier this year, the organization looked for other places to responsibly donate its resources. The connection resulted in a $180,000 donation to Rice University Emergency Medical Services.

The DesRoches era begins as Rice’s eighth president takes office

Reginald DesRoches started his first day as Rice University’s newest president the same way he starts most Fridays: with a run around campus, on this particular dewey Houston morning, accompanied by his wife Paula and daughter Shelby, a Rice senior. Later, just as he has during his term as provost, he strolled into Allen Center. But on this Friday, he walked in as President DesRoches.
Beware of those fuzzy asp caterpillars, Rice EMS and Student Health Services warn

The fuzzy asp caterpillars found across campus and throughout Houston might look cute, but they can dish out nasty stings that can be excruciatingly painful and cause serious allergic reactions. So Student Health Services and Rice Emergency Medical Services (REMS) want to give everyone in the Rice community a seasonal warning.
