Public invited to comment on RUPD as part of national accreditation process

A public portal for community comments about the Rice University Police Department will be open between Jan. 29 and March 31 as part of an annual inspection conducted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in an effort for RUPD to maintain national accreditation.
Rice Athletics announces addition of women’s diving team

Rice University President Reginald DesRoches and Tommy McClelland, vice president and director of athletics, joined head swimming coach Seth Huston in announcing to the Owl swimmers that Rice will reinstate women’s diving as a varsity program for the 2024-25 season.
Rice celebrates Black History Month with inaugural kickoff event and month of programming

Rice University will celebrate Black History Month with a series of events including its first ever kickoff, “Called to Create: African Americans and the Arts,” 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Rice Memorial Center’s Grand Hall. It will feature singers, dancers, poetry readings and remarks from President Reginald DesRoches and other university and community leaders.

Houston Methodist and Rice recently launched the Center for Neural Systems Restoration, a joint interdisciplinary center for neuroscience research and treatment innovation that aims to advance care for neurological conditions by bringing together scientists, clinicians, engineers and surgeons to tackle medical challenges like stroke recovery and spinal cord injury.
Rice Shepherd School students have master class with Balourdet Quartet

Students from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music performed short musical excerpts and received coaching from members of the Balourdet Quartet during a Jan. 23 master class in Stude Concert Hall. The dynamic ensemble received Chamber Music America’s 2024 Cleveland Quartet and the Grand Prize at the 2021 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, as well as top prizes in international competitions.

Rice Master of Global Affairs program to host 2024 NASPAA Student Simulation Competition

Rice’s School of Social Sciences Master of Global Affairs Program will host the 2024 Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration Simulation Competition on campus in Kraft Hall March 2. In addition to Texas, this year’s competition will connect students from around the world at a virtual site and 11 other host sites, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Brazil, Hungary and several locations in the United States.
