The Rice Board of Trustees recently recognized Caitlin Lindsay for her unwavering service to the institution and its constituents. She currently serves as the student center director of operations. In addition, she is a Critical Dialogues on Diversity lecturer, a resident associate at Jones College, a member of Staff Council, board treasurer for Valhalla and Willy’s Pub and the situation unit leader of the incident management team. Lindsay sits on various campus committees including the expense reporting improvements design committee and events steering committee.
During the fall 2024 semester, Camille Neal-Harris started her Tuesdays much like any other Rice student, but reaching the finish line likely felt a bit different as her day stretched into a marathon of science, art and everything in between.
Rice’s Police Department partnered with the Children’s Assessment Center to sponsor 14 families for its 12th annual Blue Santa Toy Drive. All donated items were wrapped and hand-delivered during the holiday season.
On Jan. 16, Rice’s Richard Lavenda will debut “Upon Further Reflection,” the second of seven commissioned works celebrating the Shepherd School of Music’s 50th anniversary.
Rice hosted the Houston Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board holiday reception Dec. 16 at Cohen House. The soiree was attended by Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the advisory board members as well as several notable Houstonians.
Rice has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The honor recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation.
Rice President Reginald DesRoches delivered his State of the University address Dec. 11 at the Moody Center for the Arts, highlighting points of pride from the past year and providing a look to the future.
The newest parliament of Owl graduates celebrated a major step in their educational journey during Rice’s December 2024 commencement ceremony, held in Tudor Fieldhouse today. More than 500 degrees were conferred this semester.

Staff member and beloved employee Kelly Quin passed away Nov. 30. She worked at Rice University for more than 30 years, most recently serving as assistant vice president for campaign and constituent strategy.
