Houston makes history at Europe’s premier tech event, VivaTech

Throughout the day, the Houston booth saw a constant stream of visitors with Rice-affiliated entrepreneurs introducing their ventures to global investors, corporate partners and foreign dignitaries.

 Rice University and its Biotech Launch Pad today announced a peer-reviewed publication in Nature Communications detailing the development of a novel and rechargeable device — an electrocatalytic on-site oxygenator (ecO2) that produces oxygen to keep cells alive inside an implantable “living pharmacy,” potentially improving the outcomes of cell-based therapies.

Paul Padley, a professor of physics and astronomy and director of Rice’s Bonner Nuclear Laboratory, has been named the university’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer. Padley assumed the position on an interim basis last summer when Klara Jelinkova stepped down from the post.
