Former Rice golfer Mario Carmona qualified for the U.S. Open by finishing in the top 10 among a field of 115 players last week at the Dallas Athletic Club. He is the first Owl to qualify since Michael Whitehead in 2011. The tournament is June 17-20 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.

Rice soccer knocks off West Virginia to reach Sweet 16 for first time

Three days after notching the program's first-ever victory in the NCAA Tournament, the Rice soccer team danced into the Sweet 16 with a 1-0 upset victory over West Virginia University May 1 in Cary, North Carolina.

The Rice soccer team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by defeating the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 2-0 in the Conference USA Tournament championship match April 17 at Holloway Field.
