Following back-to-back conference road wins last week against East Carolina University and Tulane University, the Rice women’s basketball team is now tied for first place in its first year in the American Athletic Conference.

The red-hot Owls have now won five out of their last six matchups, including a three-game win streak. They have an overall record of 11-6 and are 5-1 in AAC play.

"I'm proud of our young ladies and their toughness and togetherness,” head coach Lindsay Edmonds said following Saturday’s win against Tulane. “I thought we got out to a great start with a great first quarter. We had a little bit of a lull in the second, but I thought we responded really, really well in the third quarter. We pushed through that fatigue that we were experiencing a little bit and got it done.

“We had some players playing out of position today. They have that next-woman mentality of 'Hey, we can do this.' Again, it wasn't always perfect because we had some players playing out of position, but I'm just really proud of them for finding a way to get another win on the road."

The Owls will conclude their three-game road trip Jan. 24 at Tulsa University, and will follow that up with a two-game homestand against Memphis University on Jan. 27 and Southern Methodist University on Jan. 31 in Tudor Fieldhouse.
