Hundreds of Owls gathered in Grand Hall at Rice’s Memorial Center to celebrate Soul Night, an event organized by the university’s Black Student Association that showcased an original jukebox musical to celebrate the Black Rice experience and Black-American musical excellence.
Rice University held its first ever kickoff event for Black History Month Feb. 7 themed “Called to Create: African Americans and the Arts.” More than 200 guests gathered at the Rice Memorial Center’s Grand Hall for an evening of music, dance, guest speakers, food and jubilation.
As part of Rice University’s O-Week tradition, student groups welcome the new Owls and their parents to campus. Two groups representing students of color recently hosted events to greet the Rice community.
It was an evening of elegance March 6 as the Black Student Association (BSA) feted fellow students along with faculty, staff and alumni at the inaugural Black Excellence Gala in Cohen House.
