Rice University will host the Scientia/De Lange Conference XIV: Brains in Society from March 12 to 14. This three-day event will bring together leading neuroscientists, scholars, policymakers and artists to explore how advances in brain science are transforming health care, education, technology and public policy.

Taking place on Rice’s campus in Houston adjacent to the Texas Medical Center — the world’s largest health care complex — the conference will feature public lectures, interdisciplinary panels and creative presentations. These discussions will examine how neuroscience is impacting decisions far beyond the laboratory.

The conference will kick off with a public lecture by neuroscientist and bestselling author David Eagleman, whose work integrates brain research, technology and societal issues. Additional sessions will cover topics such as aging and dementia research, neuroscience-informed education, artificial intelligence, ethics and the cultural ramifications of advancements in brain science.

Reporters will have access to speaker sessions featuring nationally recognized experts who will be discussing the practical and policy implications of neuroscience at a time when the field is advancing at an unprecedented pace.

Rice is committed to accelerating discoveries in brain health. Recently, the university launched the Rice Brain Institute and is co-leading Project Metis to enhance brain health and develop the emerging brain economy. Additionally, Rice leads the Global Brain Economy Initiative and supports the voter-approved Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. These efforts signify a shift from promise to impact, positioning Rice as a model for universities responding to technological and demographic changes.

Media are invited to attend the De Lange Conference conference sessions.
