Houston Area Women’s Center sheds light on domestic violence, how to get help

Domestic violence affects many with 1 in 5 college students and 1 in 4 women experiencing abuse in their lifetime. Since 1977, the Houston Area Women’s Center, a community partner of Rice, has been a vital resource for those affected by domestic and sexual violence.

Rice builds community during National Night Out

Rice celebrated National Night Out Oct. 1 in the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center courtyard. Many campus organizations like Rice Emergency Medical Services, the Wellbeing and Counseling Center and the Rice Police Department were joined by the Houston Police Department to welcome hundreds of Owls and community members for food, games and to learn about the many resources provided by the attending groups.

Public invited to comment on RUPD as part of  national accreditation process

A public portal for community comments about the Rice University Police Department will be open between Jan. 29 and March 31 as part of an annual inspection conducted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in an effort for RUPD to maintain national accreditation.
