Rice University Parking, the Office of Student Success Initiatives and the Rice University Police Department have teamed up to offer a way to clear parking fines while also giving back to the Rice community.
Owls were offered debt relief for their citations in exchange for donations of food and hygiene products to benefit The Pantry, located in the Ley Student Center. The Pantry offers a range of complimentary nonperishable items and hygiene essentials, serving the campus community like a free local food market.
More than 1,800 items were donated by the recent deadline, which credited $10,290 in citations and averaged $30 each for 343 citations issued before Nov. 15.
