Ron Sass, beloved Rice professor, scientist, dead at 91

Ronald L. Sass, a charismatic and outgoing Rice University professor who mastered multiple scientific disciplines, championed education at all levels and used his scientific and diplomatic skills to markedly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from rice farming worldwide, has died at age 91.

Public invited to comment on RUPD as part of national accreditation process

A public portal for community comments about the Rice University Police Department will be open between Jan. 29 and March 31 as part of an annual inspection conducted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in an effort for RUPD to maintain national accreditation.
Rice celebrates Black History Month with inaugural kickoff event and month of programming

Rice University will celebrate Black History Month with a series of events including its first ever kickoff, “Called to Create: African Americans and the Arts,” 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Rice Memorial Center’s Grand Hall. It will feature singers, dancers, poetry readings and remarks from President Reginald DesRoches and other university and community leaders.

Regulation on Business and Society," held Jan. 16 at AI House Davos, a multi-stakeholder platform for responsible AI progress, held during the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos, Switzerland.
