Four months after its launch, Project Metis is building momentum — with a new website and video offering a deeper look at the initiative’s vision to position the Houston-Galveston region as a global leader in brain health and the emerging brain economy.

Announced in December by Rice University, the University of Texas Medical Branch and Memorial Hermann Health System and led by the Center for Houston’s Future, Project Metis brings together leading institutions and partners to drive human flourishing, innovation and economic growth through a lifelong focus on brain health.

A newly launched website, braincapitalhtx.com , showcases stories and advancements from partner institutions, including highlights from Rice’s recent De Lange Conference on neuroscience and society, as well as features on workplace mental health, early childhood development and more.

A new video also spotlights the initiative’s goals, featuring Project Metis leaders, including Amy Dittmar, Rice’s Howard R. Hughes Provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

“The goals of Project Metis are really centered in thinking about how we transform the world — and how we do that from Houston — to make Houston the center for brain health,” Dittmar said.

Later this spring, Project Metis partners will co-host the Texas Brain Economy Summit June 9-10 at Helix Park in the Texas Medical Center. The event will convene global leaders from organizations including the World Economic Forum, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and McKinsey Health Institute alongside key Houston institutions, underscoring the region’s growing role in a rapidly accelerating global movement focused on brain health and economic competitiveness.
