Spring Fling returns to the Moody Center for the Arts Feb. 28 with headliner singer-songwriter Raveena. Bringing her genre-blending sound to Rice University, Raveena’s performance will follow a lively set by local DJ Yorztruly for an outdoor evening of music, art and community. The event starts at 7 p.m., and the headliner takes the stage at 8 p.m.
Hosted on the Moody Terrace, the annual concert series is free and open to the public with complimentary drinks available for guests 21 and older. Parking will be available for $6, and attendees will also have exclusive after-hours access to the Moody’s current exhibition, “Imaging after Photography.” The DJ set will also be livestreamed on Houston’s Ice House Radio.
Known for a warm mix of R&B, dream-pop and Indian classical influences, Raveena has built a reputation for music that feels intimate, expansive and deeply personal. Her work draws from both Western and South Asian musical traditions, pairing lush production with soulful vocals and reflective songwriting.
Her 2022 album “Asha’s Awakening” was described by The Guardian as “dazzling and eclectic,” with the outlet adding that “mainstream pop … should clear some room for her.” Far Out Magazine praised her 2024 release “Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain,” calling it “a melting pot for Raveena’s many sonic influences.” Her captivating vocal style has also reached a wide audience through her appearance on NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, which has garnered nearly 5 million views.
Raveena is the latest emerging artist to be featured in the long-running Spring Fling series following past performers such as Madison McFerrin, Kaitlin Butts and The Tontons. For more information about the Moody and upcoming events, click here.
