Madison McFerrin, who has been lauded for her intricate vocal stylings and “soul-appella” sound, brings a unique fusion of R&B, pop, soul and jazz to this year’s Spring Fling.

The Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University invites the community to celebrate Spring Fling 2025, a free outdoor concert featuring the genre-blending sounds of singer-songwriter Madison McFerrin with an opening set by DJ DOUBLEDUTCH. The March 1 event runs from 7-9 p.m. with special access to the galleries from 5-7 p.m.

McFerrin, who has been lauded for her intricate vocal stylings and “soul-appella” sound, brings a unique fusion of R&B, pop, soul and jazz to this year’s Spring Fling. Her work explores themes of independence and inner liberation, drawing inspiration from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu and Aretha Franklin while crafting a sound entirely her own.

Opening the evening is DJ DOUBLEDUTCH, the stage name of Houston-born DJ, writer and arts worker Amarie Gipson. Known for her sets that incorporate hip-hop, house, disco, bounce and R&B, Gipson has performed at major arts and music venues across the country.

Before the concert gets started, Spring Fling visitors will have exclusive after-hours access to the Moody’s current exhibition “Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice.” The exhibition explores the intersection of environmental and social issues through contemporary art.

Spring Fling is free and open to the public. For more information, click here.
