Rice University will host a conversation with Ruth Simmons, a President’s Distinguished Fellow, at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in Rice’s Brockman Hall for Opera. The discussion will focus on her recent novel “Up Home: One Girl’s Journey.” Khambrel Marshall, KPRC’s meteorologist and “Houston Newsmakers” host will moderate the event.
Simmons, a national leader in higher education, has served three institutions as president — Smith College, Brown University and Prairie View A&M University. A trustee emerita of Rice’s Board of Trustees, Simmons served on the board from 2014 to 2018. In April 2023, she joined Rice as a President’s Distinguished Fellow. In that role, Simmons advises the president’s office on a variety of matters and collaborates with faculty and staff to build programs for students to develop future leaders.
Simmons' book will be available for purchase at the event.
