Minjae Kim, assistant professor of management in organizational behavior at the Jones Graduate School of Business, was ranked one of 2022’s 50 best undergraduate business professors by Poets and Quants.

Rice volleyball coach Genny Volpe is one of four nominees for the Houston Sports Awards Coach of the Year, to be announced Jan. 25. She is joined by Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, Galena Park North Shore High School football coach John Kay and University of Houston men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson.

Christopher Conway ’22 — a recent mechanical engineering graduate and current doctoral student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign — parlayed his work with the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) during his senior year into the prestigious NSIN X-Force Fellowship, a 10-week paid opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to gain firsthand experience solving real-world national security problems.

Conway first partnered with NSIN, a Department of Defense (DoD) Research and Engineering program office, for his engineering capstone project where he worked with fellow Owls and DoD partners to reverse engineer an unmanned, autonomous “micro-vessel” similar to those used by international drug smugglers to deliver illegal narcotics across the ocean to Southern California and South Texas. During his X-Force Fellowship, Conway and teammates developed a mobile runway manufacturing kit designed to be used by the U.S. Air Force in remote, austere environments.

Applications for the 2023 X-Force fellowship program are open and will be accepted through Jan. 20. Learn more here.
