Q: How long have you worked at Rice?

A: Six months.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for the university?

A: My colleagues. Everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with and meeting so far has been super open and welcoming.

Q: What do you want people to know about living in Houston?

A: Houston has the best food scene in Texas. It’s second to none. Our city is a melting pot of culture and diversity. There’s something for everyone. If you’re new to Houston, venture out into the suburbs and surrounding counties. The George Observatory in Brazos Bend State Park is pretty cool, when it’s not cloudy. Sugarland and Katy have some great restaurants.

Q: What do you do in your downtime?

A: I love trying new restaurants and matcha spots. I have a constantly growing list of more than 300 new restaurants and cafes to choose from. I try a new place practically every weekend.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: I truly enjoy how people-focused my job is. A large part of my role is engaging nondeskbound and Spanish speaking real estate and facilities employees. I love that I’ve been able to use my bilingual skills in my job. Not only do I feel that it helps make a difference, but I’ve also been told by a few employees how much they appreciate having someone that can speak to them in their primary language.

Q: What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

A: I enjoy working out, whether it’s strength training or Pilates. I’ve recently started getting into running, so I’m looking forward to exploring all the parks in Houston and the suburbs. Additionally, I love reading any good thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Q: What advice would you give to new employees?

A: Venture out of your unit/department; there’s a lot of great people in the university to get to know.

Q: What’s your favorite lunch spot or snack?

A: Strawberry agua fresca from Dandelion Café.
