Q: How long have you worked at Rice?

A: Going on two years.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for the university?

A: The people and the traditions at the university.

Q: What do you want people to know about living in Houston?

A: The diversity of the food scene — you can have different cultures’ food all within the same block.

Q: What do you do in your downtime?

A: I love spending time with my friends and family over some good food.

Q: What’s your favorite spot on campus to show someone?

A: I wouldn’t say that I don’t have a favorite spot, but I love walking underneath the trees that are lined around campus, especially when it’s nice and cool outside.

Q: What’s the most exciting time of year for you as it relates to Rice?

A: O-week. I love seeing the new and returning students to campus.

Q: What’s the one thing that makes Rice special to you?

A: The welcoming nature and helpfulness I felt when I started at Rice.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: I love everyone’s willingness to help others, and I love all the committees that are always wanting to help improve things.

Q: What advice would you give to new employees?

A: Be open and don’t be a grump because everyone is so happy.

Q: Would you share a bit about your background and career journey?

A: I have worked in higher education for approximately 15 years, and I thought I needed to try something outside of higher education. I began working for a multifamily property management company, but in the end, I came back to higher education.

Q: What’s your favorite lunch spot or snack?

A: I love fruits or sour candies, so sometimes I make a quick stop at the bookstore for my guilty pleasures.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?

A: Don’t try to follow others. Instead, try to be your own person.

Q: How would you describe your experience as a Rice employee?

A: Happy — coming to Rice has allowed me to become more confident in myself and has allowed me to grow professionally.

Q: Where do you see Rice in 25 years?

A: Becoming more of a global name.

Q: What’s your favorite memory from your time with Rice?

A: Being able to share my love of food with my co-workers.

Q: Describe Rice in four words or less.

A: Welcoming, diverse and genuine.
