Rice University is enriching its on-campus experience by hiring Brian Lindoerfer as associate vice president for facilities. He officially begins working April 13.

“Brian brings extensive experience in facilities, planning and large-scale construction,” said Kelly Fox, executive vice president for operations, finance and support. “He also has a proven track record of partnering across complex institutions, qualities that will greatly enhance the ambitious work we are already doing here at Rice.”

In this role, Lindoerfer will provide strategic leadership and oversight for campus facilities operations, energy and utilities management, capital planning, capital construction and environmental health and safety initiatives. He will work in close partnership with academic and administrative executives and function as the primary liaison to the Rice Board of Trustees’ Buildings and Grounds Committee and its associated subcommittees.

“I am incredibly excited and honored to deliver results at Rice University and to join such a prestigious institution,” Lindoerfer said. “The opportunity to lead and work alongside a talented team committed to stewarding our campus, shaping long-range plans and delivering high-quality capital projects is truly inspiring. I look forward to strengthening partnerships across the university, advancing strategic and sustainable investments in our facilities and infrastructure and supporting Rice’s teaching, research and student experience through excellent service and thoughtful planning.”

Lindoerfer also brings a dedication to public service, as exemplified by his previous roles at the University of Colorado Boulder, the Boulder County government and the United States Navy. He holds a certification as a licensed professional engineer, which was issued in 2007.

The search committee featured several Rice staff members including Emina Begovic, Jim Belshe, Mauricio Benitez, Sandee Cheynet, Tam Dao, Paul Padley, Katrina Spencer and Tina Villard.

Lindoerfer earned a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in business administration from DePaul University as well as a master’s in civil engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder.
