As the U.S. Supreme Court reviews challenges to birthright citizenship, an expert from Rice University is available to discuss the constitutional issues involved and the potential impact of the ruling on federal immigration policy.
David Leebron, the Clarence L. Carter Professor of Legal Studies and former president of Rice, is a legal scholar who teaches law-related courses. He can provide insights on the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause, Supreme Court precedents, and the broader legal implications of the court’s decision.
Leebron served as president of Rice from 2004 to 2022 and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. He has also taught at the law schools of the University of California, Los Angeles, New York University and Columbia University, where he served as dean before joining Rice.
