With the U.S. Supreme Court expected to issue additional opinions this week, a Rice University expert is available to discuss the pending birthright citizenship case, the constitutional questions surrounding the challenge and the potential implications for federal immigration policy.
David Leebron, the Clarence L. Carter Professor of Legal Studies and former president of Rice, is a legal scholar who teaches law-related courses. He can provide insights on the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause, Supreme Court precedents, and the broader legal implications of the court’s decision.
Leebron served as president of Rice from 2004 to 2022 and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. He has also taught at the law schools of the University of California, Los Angeles, New York University and Columbia University, where he served as dean before joining Rice.
