Rice University students, faculty and staff brought Rice Blue Friday and Texas pride together Feb. 27 as the campus celebrated Go Texan Day in true Houston fashion. The annual tradition, which coincides with the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, transformed the Academic Quad into a spirited gathering of cowboy boots, hats and Rice blue.
Festivities included western wear and photo opportunities with Rice’s beloved mascot, Sammy the Owl — sponsored by Staff Council. The High Order of Owl Tailgating Society (HOOTS) sold $3 breakfast tacos to benefit the HOOTS scholarship fund, and attendees received free Rice-emblazoned bandanas while supplies lasted.
The morning event offered a joyful blend of campus spirit and local culture. The university will enjoy more rodeo revelry at Rice Night at the Rodeo March 10.
