Rice University will serve as the official starting point for the iconic Orange Fanwalk June 20 ahead of a FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match between the Netherlands and Sweden.

A beloved tradition organized by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB), the Orange Fanwalk brings thousands of Dutch supporters together in a vibrant pregame celebration known worldwide for its sea of orange and high-energy atmosphere.

“This summer, the eyes of the world will be on Houston, and Rice is proud to help welcome the global celebration of sport and community,” Rice President Reginald DesRoches said. “Hosting this World Cup and Dutch tradition at Rice Stadium reflects both the university’s deep connection to the city and our commitment to bringing people together through experiences that inspire pride, unity and international exchange.

“We are honored to play a role in what will be a historic moment for Houston, the Netherlands and for the millions of fans following the FIFA World Cup.”

Fans are invited to gather at Rice Stadium beginning at 8 a.m. From 8-8:45 a.m., the Orange Fan Team — featuring Yuki, FeestDJRuud, Yves Berendse and DJ NOA — will provide live entertainment. At 8:45 a.m., participants will begin a 2.5-mile march through the streets of Houston toward the match venue NRG Stadium, led by the double-decker Orange Bus, which recently arrived in Texas after crossing the Atlantic.

“The arrival of the Oranje fans is going to bring incredible energy to our city,” said Chris Canetti, president of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Houston Host Committee. “Houston welcomes thousands of Dutch supporters with open arms and cannot wait for all the festivities ahead. We are proud that our city will serve as the backdrop for this orange spectacle.”

“The strength of Oranje lies in the connection between the team and the fans,” said Marianne van Leeuwen, director of the KNVB. “We are looking forward to the match days and the unique Oranje experience we create together. Our goal is to give every fan an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful to Houston for coloring the city orange alongside us.”

Rice is an Official Houston World Cup 2026 Host City Supporter and will assist in a range of collaboration and engagement efforts, including serving on key subcommittees and supporting Houston’s FIFA Volunteer Program.

The university also plans to host a variety of community-focused activities designed to bring the excitement of the FIFA World Cup to campus and beyond. Planned activities include hosting watch parties at Tudor Fieldhouse and the Ion, offering soccer clinics and community engagement programs, inviting the public to campus for self-guided tours and creating volunteer and experiential learning opportunities for students.
