Q: What is your favorite time of year at Rice and why?

A: My favorite time of year is graduation. We host a social event for our graduating student-athletes and their families just prior to commencement. This day brings a flood of emotions as I recall each student-athlete’s first year at Rice, the growth they have gone through while at Rice and who they are when they walk across that stage. It is truly an honor to play a part in their journey.

Q: Share your most memorable, stand-out moments during your time at the university.

A: While each of our conference tournament wins over the last 14 years have been special, winning the 2024 American Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament and having my children there to witness the celebration and help cut down the nets was inspiring. Our student-athletes are incredible role models, and I’m so grateful that my children have been able to connect with and be mentored by several of our former Rice Owls. You can’t put a price on that.

Q: How have you seen Rice evolve over the years?

A: When I arrived at Rice in the fall of 2011, we were still a university with a student population of around 3,800 undergraduates. To watch the population rise to 5,000 and witness all the new buildings being constructed has been quite the experience. Rice is small but oh so mighty.

Q: How have you evolved because of your experience at the university?

A: I truly didn’t know what to expect when I came to Rice. After having spent the last 14 years here, it has changed me. It has taught me that with the right people around you and with the right mindset, you truly can achieve things you never thought possible. I’ve witnessed it over and over again in both students and staff and coaches. Rice is a magical place, and I’ll forever be grateful of my time here.

Q: What advice would you give to employees to make the most of their time at the university?

A: Build relationships all across the campus. This university is filled with the most interesting people, and if you get out of your office and connect with others, you will learn so much more about life. Each person’s path is different, yet we are all here at this one university, working daily to make it an even better place for students to learn and employees to thrive.
