Students at Rice University are on the move. A group from the Scholars Transforming Through Research advocacy program travelled to Washington, D.C., to meet with policymakers earlier this month. While there, they delivered testimonies regarding their research and future aspirations as they conclude their academic studies.

One memorable meeting was with a delegate from U.S. Congress member Lizzie Fletcher’s office. Fletcher (D-Houston) represents the 7th congressional district, which includes Rice’s campus. Her staff was eager to hear about the variety of interests, ranging from health policy to environmental exploration.

The group included senior Maya Harpavath, juniors Sammi Frey, Jessica Xu and Prasi Desai and Abby Schuh, associate director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry.
