The Environmental Protection Agency is planning to repeal federal rules limiting greenhouse gas emissions from coal- and natural gas-fired power plants and taking a related step aimed at preventing future administrations from imposing similar climate regulations on the power sector.
Daniel Cohan, an atmospheric scientist and professor of civil and environmental engineering at Rice University, is available to discuss the implications of the move in Texas and beyond, including its potential effects on greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, public health, electricity generation and climate policy.
Cohan has more than two decades of experience studying power plants and their impacts on air quality, health and climate. He is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and 70 articles for popular media, as well as the book Confronting Climate Gridlock.
Cohan can address questions including what the rollback could mean for emissions from the U.S. power sector, how changes in federal regulations could affect coal and natural gas generation, and the broader challenges of reducing climate pollution while meeting growing electricity demand.
