The Doerr Institute for New Leaders at Rice University has launched CoachRICE: Team Coaching, a new professional education program designed to help coaches, managers and leaders develop the skills to coach and lead high-performing teams.
The 60-hour program, accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), expands on the Doerr Institute’s CoachRICE programs by focusing on the dynamics of teams rather than individual coaching. Participants will learn practical, evidence-based approaches to navigating team dynamics, decision-making, conflict, collaboration and performance.
“The skills required to deftly coach a team as a collective entity are different from those leveraged in one-on-one engagements,” said Bernie Banks, director of the Doerr Institute. “Consequently, our team coaching offering is designed to ensure participants are steeped in the best practices associated with the unique challenges posed by treating a group as one entity for the purposes of leadership development.”
The inaugural Team Coaching cohort will begin in January. The program is fully virtual and combines live interactive sessions, asynchronous assignments, group supervision coaching and practicum engagements with real teams. Participants who complete the program will receive a CoachRICE certificate of completion aligned with ICF’s Advanced Accreditation in Team Coaching standards.
The program is designed for internal coaches, human resources and learning professionals, credentialed coaches, executive and independent coaches and CoachRICE alumni seeking to expand their work from individuals to teams. Participants will practice applying ICF’s eight Team Coaching Competencies and evidence-based frameworks for understanding team performance and group behavior.
“Participants who complete the CoachRICE: Team Coaching program will gain a strong foundation in essential team development frameworks, hands-on opportunities to practice their coaching skills and the preparation needed to pursue the International Coaching Federation’s Advanced Certification in Team Coaching,” said Stephanie Taylor, managing director of programs at Doerr.
The program is led by Daniela Aneva, an ICF Master Certified Coach and Advanced Certified Team Coach with more than 20 years of organizational leadership experience, including global talent roles at Amazon, Google and Walmart.
Applications for the spring cohort are open through Nov. 6, with enrollment limited and applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Doerr will hold an information session on the program Oct. 16 at 12 p.m.
