Rice University extends a heartfelt thank you to Hannes Hofer, who is retiring from the institution after more than 40 years of service to the community. Throughout the years, he has served as a commencement adviser, rowing team coach and most recently as facilities project manager.
“I started at Rice in 1981,” Hofer said. “It is now 2025. I have seen a lot of changes here. I’ve been here through five presidents.
“I am no longer going to be coming to work every day, but that is not to say I will stay away from Rice. I am an associate at Sid Rich College — I will continue to do that. Rice has become part of my life. It’s part of me. I am a Rice person, and I’ll continue to be a Rice person.”
