Summer Jam brings community together for art, farmers market, family friendly activities at the Moody

2025 Summer Jam

The Moody Center for the Arts opened its doors to the Houston community for its annual Summer Jam, an all-ages celebration packed with hands-on art activities, DJ sets, a farmers market and a full lineup of local food and drink vendors.

Held in partnership with Informal Grub, this year’s Summer Jam welcomed more than 1,900 people as they explored the Moody’s exhibitions “Figurative Histories” and “Collective Memories,” took part in scavenger hunts and cooled off with interactive stations that included face painting, bubble play with Texas Bubblers and a hands-on printmaking workshop led by Red Bird Press.

“Central to the Moody’s mission is creating opportunities where art can facilitate connections across communities,” said Joel Thompson, deputy director of the Moody Center for the Arts. “Summer Jam is an annual invitation for families, younger guests and anyone new to the area to experience what the Moody has to offer.”

Visitors browsed the indoor farmers market, where vendors offered ceramics, handmade candles, vintage goods, jewelry and more, while outside, guests lined up for bites from local favorites and enjoyed complimentary beer and root beer from Saint Arnold Brewing Co.

“We want to expand access to art spaces by creating a welcoming atmosphere,” Thompson said. “Summer Jam is one way we accomplish this, and in partnership with the Informal Grub, our local community can explore the Moody through play, art-making, enjoying great local food and meeting local vendors.”
