Rice University’s entire campus is part of the Lynn R. Lowrey Arboretum, including a collection of woody plants, native species and, during this time of year, hundreds of azaleas in full bloom. To celebrate the vibrant plants’ eye-catching beauty, the university’s Office of Public Affairs hosted Rice Blue in Bloom March 26 outside Cohen House.

Coveted for their spectacular flowers in a wide range of shapes and colors, the azaleas at Rice usually display their blooms in spring for about three weeks, depending on the weather. For this reason, the university annually waits for signs that the plants are ready to show their magnificence then hosts a party for the campus to enjoy the lively colors, fellowship and fun.

The crowd was encouraged to wear Rice blue and enjoy light bites, a DJ and complimentary photographs amid the azaleas.
