The Shepherd School of Music capped a busy December weekend with a sold-out Spirit of the Season celebration at Brockman Hall for Opera, drawing a full house for an evening of holiday music, opera highlights and musical theater favorites. Guests filled the Grand Foyer early for cookies and hot chocolate before heading into the Morrison Theater for the performance.
Student performers from across the school brought color and energy to the stage with a program that moved seamlessly from Rossini and Bizet to Broadway classics and festive ensemble numbers. The lineup featured everything from “Habanera” to “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” mariachi classics from Rice University’s Mariachi Luna Llena and a joyful holiday medley by brass and percussion ensembles. The evening also included an event first: a chamber orchestra ensemble. The night closed with a full cast encore of “Auld Lang Syne,” marking a warm start to the holiday season for the Shepherd School community.
