Rice to host topping out ceremony Sept. 4 for new residential colleges

Rice University will celebrate a major construction milestone with a topping out ceremony marking completion of the highest point of its two newest residential college buildings for Chao and Lovett Colleges. Designed by Henning Larsen with Kirksey as executive architect, the buildings will each house nearly 300 students and feature sustainable design elements, modern dining facilities and vibrant outdoor spaces.

When: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4

Where: Rice University – Construction site for Chao and Lovett Colleges at the old Sid Richardson College location (Entrance 4, Main Street).

Why: The 269,000-square-foot complex will expand Rice’s distinctive residential college system with state-of-the-art amenities, including a shared all-electric servery with a robotic cooking station, a rooftop terrace with a pickleball court and expansive green spaces.
