Rice earns top 10 spot in US News rankings for online graduate computer science program

Rice University’s Online Master of Computer Science (MCS) program continues its meteoric rise, advancing four more spots to No. 10 in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings, announced today. Ranked No. 1 in Texas and among the top programs nationwide, the online MCS was ranked No. 27 just two years ago in the Online Master’s in Information Technology category.

Established in 2019 by Rice’s George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing, the program is tailored for working professionals, whether they have a computer science background or are new to the field. It combines rigorous coursework with hands-on learning and personalized, one-on-one faculty support. Students engage with cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and large language models, which are revolutionizing software engineering.

Rice Business online programs also earned top recognition with the MBA@Rice landing at No. 25 on the U.S. News & World Report list of Best Online MBA Programs. In addition, Rice ranked among the nation’s best in specific areas of business education:

  • No. 7 for Best Online General Management MBA Programs

  • No. 11 for Best Online Finance MBA Programs

  • No. 17 for Best Online MBA Programs for Veterans

The U.S. News & World Report rankings assess nearly 1,800 online degree programs on how well they're designed for distance learners and their effectiveness at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable time frame. Only regionally accredited institutions offering primarily online degree programs are considered for these prestigious rankings.
