Rice Global hosted its second Global Insights Lunch & Learn on Oct. 10, focusing on international travel safety and resources available to the university community. The session titled “Staying Safe Abroad” was led by Juliana Crim, Rice’s Global Travel Safety Manager who helps assess risk levels and support travelers across the university.

Crim highlighted the importance of Rice’s new travel registry, launched Sept. 1, which connects travelers to Crisis24 — a 24/7 service offering real-time alerts and assistance with emergencies and travel insurance. The registry required under Policy 852 helps the university track travel activity and ensure that support is available anywhere in the world.

So far in 2025, 1,930 Rice travelers have visited 124 countries and territories for both business and personal reasons.

“Registering your trip isn’t just about compliance,” Crim said. “It’s about keeping our community safe, informed and connected no matter where they are.”

Via Crisis24, travelers can seek immediate help on issues ranging from lost passports and civil unrest to medical emergencies and emotional support while abroad. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions about travel approvals, visa concerns and coverage for non-Rice travelers.

Rice Global’s next Global Insights session “Research Security & International Travel” will take place Nov. 7 and feature Tam Dao, associate vice president of campus safety and research security, along with the Office of Research Security team. RSVP here.
