Rice football will celebrate Halloween in style as the Owls take on Memphis Friday, Oct. 31, in a nationally televised matchup at Rice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and fans can expect both fun and competition as Rice looks to earn a key late-season win in American Conference play.
Before the game, the stadium concourse will transform into a Halloween hotspot with trick-or-treating hosted by Rice Athletics teams, and fans in costume will receive free admission. The pregame fun continues at Tailgate Owley, opening at 3 p.m. outside the east side of the stadium with music, games and family-friendly activities.
Rice faculty, staff and students with a valid Rice ID can enjoy free Jay-Bar-M BBQ (while supplies last), free samples from Live Oak Vodka and Tequila Corrido for guests 21 and over and a taco truck with food available for purchase. Fans can cheer on the Owls during the Owl Walk at 3:45 p.m., then stick around for the Standard Proof Concert Series at 4 p.m. featuring Queen Legacy. Faculty, staff and students can also enter a raffle to win a TurtleBox speaker, to be given away during the first quarter of the game.
Rice faculty and staff can purchase $5 game tickets online in advance or at the ticket window with a Rice ID:https://riceowls.evenue.net/promotions/event/FB25/FB05/FACSTAFF.
Rice and Memphis have met just five times on the gridiron, with the Tigers holding a slight 3–2 edge in the all-time series. The teams first faced off in 2007, and Rice claimed victories in 2008 and 2011, including a dramatic 42–35 comeback win in Memphis. In their most recent matchup in 2024, the Tigers edged the Owls 27–20 in a tightly contested game. Friday’s meeting will add another chapter to the hard-fought series.
