Rice University participated in the 47th annual Original MLK Jr. Day Parade thanks to a dedicated roster of students, staff, faculty, alumni, family and friends, the Marching Owl Band and Sammy The Owl, all who braved the frigid temperatures. They joined thousands of other Houstonians who gathered to walk or watch the procession through downtown.
The parade honored Martin Luther King Jr. by showcasing the contributions and achievements of African Americans and others in pursuit of civil rights throughout history. This year’s theme involved fostering acceptance, maintaining human dignity and safeguarding fundamental human rights in our diverse society.
