Q: How long have you worked at Rice?

A: I started in February 2022, so I am coming up on 2.5 years.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for the university?

A: I love getting to work alongside people who are passionate about education and creating a community here.

Q: What do you want people to know about living in Houston?

A: I love the food, and there is so much in Houston to try and explore.

Q: What do you do in your downtime?

A: I read, crochet, game, work out and hang out with my pups (and husband).

Q: What’s your favorite spot on campus to show someone?

A: There’s a loquat tree in a courtyard that shall not be named. I stalk it in the spring, waiting for the fruit.

Q: What’s the most exciting time of year for you as it relates to Rice?

A: Fall is always a fun time. It’s exciting to know the students are back on campus after summer (even though we don’t really see them in our office). It’s also when our reporting for the year can start once we have hit the census date.

Q: What’s the one thing that makes Rice special to you?

A: One thing that impressed me when starting at Rice is that students want to stay on campus all four years. My experience before was that students wanted off campus as soon as possible. I think this speaks to Rice’s unique and captivating culture.

Q: If you could be Sammy The Owl for a day, what would you do?

A: I would probably go hang out at the serveries and Valhalla and do photo ops.

Q: How would you describe your experience as a Rice employee?

A: My experience has been an exciting whirlwind. Time has really flown. I am excited about my experiences and opportunities at Rice and look forward to what may come in the future.

Q: Where do you see Rice in 25 years?

A: Still pursuing the RICE Way and developing exceptional students to be the best they can be.

Q: Describe Rice University in four words or less.

A: Amazing, unique, adaptive and collegial.
