More than 100 Rice students packed the Ley Student Center’s Grand Hall on a festive night for “Mega Shabbat” March 1. Hosted by Chabad at Rice, it was a night of community, incredible energy and great food. It was also the largest Mega Shabbat in the history of the event on campus.
Featuring a matzah ball soup mixer, Chabad’s signature dinner also included a time for students to share emotional and impactful stories of what the Chabad community has done for them during their years at Rice and in their moments of need. The spectacular Shabbat feast was organized by Rabbi Shmuli Slonim and Nechama Slonim, co-directors of Chabad at Rice.
Like all programs at Chabad, this event was free of charge, made possible by donations from friends, parents, alumni and students. It was a celebration of Jewish culture as well as a way to create community among Owls and to embrace the Jewish faith and traditions that have enriched diversity on campus and the Rice experience.
