Rice political experts available to analyze Trump assassination attempt, impact on presidential race

Mark Jones and Bob Stein

Many questions remain following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday. The former president was rushed off stage by secret service agents after a bullet grazed his ear, though Trump is reportedly “fine,” a spokesperson said. The alleged shooter was killed and one rally attendee is dead, while two others were reportedly injured.

With Trump just days away from accepting the Republican nomination for president, Rice University political scientists are available for media interviews to provide analysis and discuss the potential impact on the presidential race:

  • Mark Jones, a professor of political science and fellow at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, is a frequent commentator in local, state, national and international media on government, politics and public policy.
  • Robert Stein , the Lena Gohlman Fox Professor of Political Science and fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy, is an urban politics, voting and elections expert.
