Rice football season is finally upon us, and with that comes unique events like Owl Fest, where Rice University supporters are invited to meet the squad before the first game of the year.
On Aug. 17, members of the Rice family and friends in the community packed into Rice Stadium for the annual free fan fest for Rice fall sports. Before watching the team hold an open scrimmage, fans were able to get autographs from and interact with some of their favorite student-athletes from the Rice cross country, soccer and volleyball teams.
“As we turn the page to a new school year, it was great to have so many incredible fans out to support our football team as well as all of our fall sports student-athletes who were signing autographs,” said Eric George, assistant vice president and deputy athletic director. “I know our teams felt the excitement. We can’t wait to see everyone back in historic Rice Stadium in a couple of weeks.”
Activities during the kickoff event included perusing the Shop Rice Owls team apparel shop as well as a variety of family friendly fun such as food trucks and an inflatable kids’ zone. Fans experienced a full slate of food and beverages, face painting, a balloon artist, roaming photo booth, DJ Ethan Capps, Kona Ice and other refreshments.
The Owls will kick off the 2024 football season at Rice Stadium Aug. 31 versus non-conference foe Sam Houston State University.
Single-game tickets for all six of Rice’s 2024 home football games are now on sale starting at $22 online at TicketMaster or by calling 713-348-OWLS (6957). Owls’ fans also have the option to secure their same seats for all six games by purchasing season tickets, or they can create their own customized two- or three-game mini plans.
