The Rice University School of Social Sciences kicked off its spring research events with a Research Relay Feb. 12 highlighting global research in social sciences.

The event included short presentations by Mary Prendergast, associate professor of anthropology, on pastoralism in Kenya and Tanzania; Mahmoud Amin El-Gamal, professor of economics and statistics, on exclusion factors and impacts in sub-Saharan Africa; Kaitlyn Robinson, assistant professor of political science, on international relations and civil war; and Vivian Lu, assistant professor of anthropology, on commercial migration in Nigeria.

Research Relays are held throughout the year to provide a relaxed setting for faculty to share their work in a “lightning talk” format and connect with their peers, promoting multidisciplinary research collaborations.
