Providing a dynamic venue to showcase regional bands and offering free-access art exhibitions, Spring Fling at Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts is back for a fifth year. Slated for 6 p.m. March 2, the event blends music, art and community. Its headliner, singer-songwriter Kaitlin Butts, offers a blend of cosmic honky-tonk and poignant feminist storytelling. She’ll be joined on stage by THEBROSFRESH, whose genre-defying fusion of country and soul injects a fresh perspective into the southern music scene. Attendees will also get exclusive after-hours access to the Moody’s current exhibition, “Hayv Kahraman: The Foreign in Us.”

Butts’ journey from the heartland of Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the forefront of the country music scene is powered by her gift of storytelling and rebellious spirit. Butts has garnered widespread acclaim for her radiant voice and masterful musicianship. Her debut album “Same Hell, Different Devil” released in 2015 laid the groundwork for her distinctive sound, while subsequent releases like “What Else Can She Do” solidified her status as a rising star in the industry.

Twin brothers Torrence and Thurman Thomas, collectively known as THEBROSFRESH, will perform alongside Butts. Hailing from New Orleans and now based in Austin, this dynamic duo brings a fresh perspective to Southern music, blending elements of R&B, soul and rock to create an electrifying sound that defies categorization. With influences ranging from Prince to Pharrell, THEBROSFRESH are not afraid to push boundaries and challenge conventions, making them the perfect complement to Butts's soulful melodies.

In addition to the musical lineup, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the thought-provoking exhibition by Iraqi-American artist Hayv Kahraman, whose work explores themes of identity, displacement and belonging. Complimentary drinks from Saint Arnold Brewing Company will be available as well.

Spring Fling reinforces the Moody’s commitment to making the arts accessible to all, while fostering a sense of belonging and connection within the community.

Register to attend the event here.
