Rice University is gearing up for Election Day on campus Nov. 5 with a lineup of events aimed at encouraging civic engagement and a spirit of democracy among students, faculty and staff.
The day will include an Election Day block party hosted by a coalition of student organizations from 12-4 p.m. in the Academic Quad. The event will feature voter information to help support and inform participants about their voting rights and options along with refreshments, live music, a civic organization fair and a dunk tank, bouncy castle and photo booth.
Following the celebration, an election night watch party will be held at 7 p.m. in the Sid Richardson College Commons. Attendees can join to watch live election results, connect with friends and engage in discussions about the impact of the day’s events. This evening event is open to all Rice staff, faculty and students, so members of the university community can share in the excitement of election night.
In addition to these festivities, polling for registered Harris County voters will be conveniently located at Rice’s Welcome Center in Sewall Hall, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who are registered in Harris County can cast their ballots at this on-campus polling location. The location’s staffing will include a number of Rice student poll workers.
