Breakthrough technology and national security: DARPA and Rice to discuss investing in the future March 12

Technology example

HOUSTON – (March 5, 2022) – Leaders from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Rice University will host a presentation and fireside chat at the Ion March 12 to discuss the agency’s role in national security, program areas and investments in breakthrough technologies.

DARPA event

The event will offer insights into DARPA’s approach to investments that drive transformational change and the critical role universities play in building robust innovation ecosystems.

As the research and development agency for the U.S. Department of Defense, DARPA explicitly reaches for transformational change instead of incremental advances, according to their mission statement. It has helped lay the foundations for some of society’s most transformational technologies: the internet, miniaturized GPS, smart phones, mRNA vaccines, stealth, commercial space access and autonomous vehicles.

Media who would like to attend should RSVP with Avery Franklin, media relations specialist at Rice, at AveryRF@rice.edu or 713-348-6327.
