Former Rice University swimmer Ahalya Lettenberger made her country and alma mater proud last weekend, competing in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. She placed fifth in the women’s 400-meter freestyle (S7) and sixth in the women’s 100 breaststroke (SB7).

A two-time Paralympian, Lettenberger returned to the world stage after competing in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, where she captured the silver medal in the 200 individual medley (S7). She was one of 21 women and 12 men to represent Team USA at the Paralympic Games this summer.

“It’s such an honor to represent not only the U.S. but also Rice, and just being able to compete for all the people that have helped me get here,” Lettenberger said in a media availability session prior to leaving for Paris. “It’s truly such an honor, and words can’t describe what it means.”
